OAS awarded TSB grant to further enhance the high-performance single-layer Anti-Reflective coating developed on glass.
OXFORD, England--(News Item) -- Oxford Advanced Surfaces Group Plc (OAS), the advanced materials company, announced today that it has been awarded a grant by the Technology Strategy Board to enhance their Anti-Reflective Coating technology base.
OAS succeeded in winning this award in the face of stern competition from approximately 700 applications, 70 of which were examined in detail, offering competitive technologies in "Technology Inspired Innovation". This selection by the TSB of OAS's ARC technology demonstrates a confidence in both the technology and the capability of the OAS Research & Development team.
Oxford Advanced Surfaces (OAS) has developed a novel low cost nanoparticle based coating for glass substrates that reduces reflection to almost zero and is deposited by simple wet chemical techniques. There is currently significant interest in this project with major industrial glass users in the solar and display spaces. However it has become clear during development that there is also a major interest in such coatings on polymer substrates, as current technology requires expensive multilayer coatings to achieve suitable anti-reflection properties. OAS have demonstrated that their nanoparticle system can deliver the optical benefits required but need to apply additional resources to further develop the coatings with the mechanical properties required by industry at this time.
The market size for Anti-Reflective optical coatings is estimated at >$3Bn and their use with polymer substrates is increasing rapidly. Other addressable markets for the technology include flat panel displays, opthalmics, specialist optical systems and automotive windows. OAS has had initial conversations with a number of major global leaders in this industry to verify that this type of technology is of significant interest.
The company is interested to work with new partners who can license this technology to customise development for use in their Anti-Reflective Coating requirement.
